FAQ

Team building and corporate events: your questions, answered

In short: Answers to common questions about team building and corporate events at Escape This: group sizes, multi-room bookings, venue hire, pricing, timings, food and drink, room choice, and venues in Perth, Sydney and Melbourne.

Why escape rooms work for team building

Why does an escape room make good team building?

Because the clock forces the habits teams find hardest at work: sharing what you know quickly, hearing out the quiet colleague who noticed something, and agreeing a plan under pressure. An Escape This room gives a group one goal and 60 minutes, so leadership, communication and problem-solving show up naturally — and the debrief afterwards gives everyone something concrete to discuss.

Which workplace skills does an Escape This room exercise?

Problem-solving, communication, leadership, time management and conflict resolution. Not everyone agrees on the next move in an Escape This room, so a team has to resolve disagreements fast, use each person's strengths and keep track of time — the same things that make a team effective at work.

How is an escape room different from a typical corporate offsite?

Nobody sits through a presentation. Every person in an Escape This room is hands-on for the whole hour, inside a film-style set with its own story, sound and effects, and the result is measurable: did the team get out, how fast, and with how many clues. It also takes about 90 minutes, not a whole day.

Can different teams from one company compete?

Yes. When a group is split across several Escape This rooms with the same start time, each team plays against its own clock, and afterwards you can compare who escaped, how quickly and with how few clues. Different rooms make it about bragging rights rather than a strict race.

Who runs Team Escapes?

Team Escapes is the team-building side of Escape This, Australia's largest escape room operator, which also runs its own escape room design studio and escape room factory in Australia. Every room your team plays was designed and built in-house, and Escape This was named Escape Room Operator of the Year in 2025 and 2026.

Group size and capacity

How many people can Escape This host at the same time?

336 people, if all 48 rooms across Escape This's 5 venues started together with their largest teams (ER-OS room settings, 25 October 2026). By state that is 170 in Perth, 84 in Sydney and 82 in Melbourne. At a single venue, multi-room bookings suit up to 60 and full venue hire up to 100.

Which Escape This room takes the biggest single team?

The Haunting at Northbridge, which takes up to 12 players in one team (ER-OS, 25 October 2026). Most other Escape This rooms take up to 8, so groups larger than that are usually split across rooms with matching start times.

Is there a minimum number for a team event?

No group minimum. Most Escape This rooms run from two players, so a small team can simply book one room online. The multi-room and venue-hire options come into play once your numbers outgrow a single room; each room's own minimum and maximum are listed on the city pages.

How is a large group split between rooms?

The Escape This bookings team looks at your headcount and picks a mix of rooms whose team limits add up, then sets every room to start and finish together. Tell them if anyone wants to avoid horror or has an age or access need, and they will place those people in suitable rooms.

What if our headcount doesn't divide evenly?

It rarely matters. Every Escape This room has its own range — for example two to eight players — so uneven totals still fit: 19 people could play as teams of 8, 8 and 3. The bookings team balances the teams for you when you enquire.

Can Escape This handle a company of more than 100?

Full venue hire tops out at 100 guests per Escape This venue, so for larger companies talk to the bookings team about splitting across venues or running sessions back to back. Perth is the easiest place to do it: its two venues are a five-minute walk apart.

Multi-room bookings and venue hire

What is a multi-room booking?

A multi-room booking spreads your group across several Escape This rooms at one venue, each team playing a different experience, with everyone starting and finishing at the same time. It suits groups of up to 60 who don't need the whole venue, and each guest pays per person as for a normal ticket.

Can we book out an entire Escape This centre for our team?

Yes. Team Escapes can close a whole Escape This centre to the public for your organisation, with every room and space for up to 100 guests. It is charged by the hour with a two-hour minimum, and the events team plans the rooms, teams and timetable with you.

What can be customised at a whole-centre team-building event?

Almost the whole day: which rooms run, how people are mixed into teams, start and finish times, breaks, a welcome or results reveal on the venue’s AV and screens, decorations and furniture, and catering options. Escape This can also add its complimentary Workplace Bonding Challenge for a structured debrief.

Which Escape This centre suits a whole-venue event best?

It depends on headcount and taste. Escape This Perth CBD has the most capacity, 108 players at once across 14 rooms (Escape This booking data, 25 October 2026), and venue hire tops out at 100 guests at any centre. Horror-heavy venues suit braver teams; adventure-led ones suit mixed groups.

What do you get with full Escape This venue hire?

The whole venue for your group: free run of up to 12 escape room experiences for up to 100 guests, flexible furniture layouts, room for decorations, access to the AV systems and digital displays, and catering options. Escape This charges venue hire by the hour, with a two-hour minimum.

Should we book several rooms or hire the whole Escape This venue?

Book several rooms if your group is under about 60 and the event is mainly the game. Hire the whole venue if you are close to 100 people, want to decorate, run speeches on the screens, bring in catering, or want people to wander between experiences rather than play once.

Will strangers be put in a room with our team?

No. Escape This never mixes groups: a booking is private to your team, whether it is one room or twelve. Some operators fill spare places with other customers; Escape This does not.

Can every room start at exactly the same time?

Yes — coordinating start and finish times is the point of an Escape This multi-room booking. On each city page the live booking grid shows every room's sessions side by side, so you can see which times line up before you enquire.

Can we book team building online or do we have to enquire?

A single room can be booked online straight away through the live booking grids on this site or Escape This's official ticketing partner, Fever. For several rooms or a whole venue, Escape This recommends enquiring so the team can tailor the rooms and timings — use the enquiry form, email bookings@escapethis.com.au or call (08) 6118 0286.

Prices and off-peak savings

How is booking out a whole escape room centre priced?

By the hour, with a two-hour minimum. The rate depends on the centre and the day, and Monday to Thursday bookings save up to $4,000 on whole-centre hire. Send Team Escapes your city, date and headcount for a tailored quote.

How does Escape This price a team-building event?

Two ways. Multi-room bookings are per person, each guest paying the ticket price of their room. Full venue hire is an hourly rate with a two-hour minimum. Both vary by venue and day of the week, and Escape This gives a tailored quote on enquiry.

Is team building cheaper Monday to Thursday?

Yes. Monday to Thursday is off-peak at Escape This: multi-room bookings are 20% off, and hiring a whole venue off-peak saves up to $4,000 compared with the rest of the week.

What does an Escape This room cost per person?

Starting prices run from $49 to $65 per person depending on the room and venue (ER-OS, 25 October 2026); weekend sessions cost more than weekday ones. Each room's starting price is in the tables on this page and on the Perth, Sydney and Melbourne pages.

How do we get a quote for hiring an Escape This venue?

Send the enquiry form or email bookings@escapethis.com.au with your city, preferred date, rough numbers and how long you want the venue. Pricing depends on the venue and the day, so the quote is tailored; choosing a Monday-to-Thursday date is the easiest way to bring it down.

On the day

What happens when a work group arrives at Escape This?

Your teams check in, get a short introduction to how the rooms work, and are taken to their rooms in time for the shared start. Once the door closes the clock runs; when it stops, each team has a photo taken and everyone regroups to compare how they went.

Do teams get help if they get stuck?

Yes. Escape This game masters watch every room and send clues when a team asks, so a group of first-timers still reaches the end. Clues used are counted, which gives competitive teams something extra to compare at the debrief.

Can the team have a few drinks before the game?

Save them for afterwards. Escape This's safety rules say anyone under the influence will not be allowed to play, so schedule the room first and the bar second — which also gives the evening its first round of stories.

Food, drinks and the after-party

Can Escape This cater our team event?

Catering options are available when you hire a whole Escape This venue. For multi-room bookings, Escape This partners with nearby restaurants and bars for food and drinks before or after the game — ask the bookings team for details when you enquire.

Where can the team go for drinks or dinner afterwards?

Every Escape This venue is in a central business or nightlife district — Hay Street Mall and Northbridge in Perth, George Street and The Corso in Sydney, Collins Street in Melbourne — with bars and restaurants a short walk away. Escape This also has hospitality partners near each venue; ask about them when you book.

Choosing rooms for a mixed team

Can staff under 18 join an Escape This team event?

Yes, in most rooms. Only a handful of Escape This rooms are strictly 18+ (Cannibal, Asylum, Buried Alive, Meat Grinder), and many adventure rooms are recommended from age 9. Tell the bookings team about apprentices or junior staff and they will keep them in rooms that fit the age rules.

Does our team have to play a horror room?

No. Of the 48 Escape This rooms, 26 are adventures — pirates, wizards, heists, a Wild West gaol and more — and 22 are horror. Perth CBD and Manly are entirely adventure rooms, so a group that wants no scares at all can stay there.

Can a colleague who uses a wheelchair take part?

In many cases, yes — but access varies by room, because some Escape This sets include steps, narrow doors or crawl spaces. Mention any access needs when you enquire and the bookings team will choose rooms that work for the whole group.

Does it matter if nobody has done an escape room before?

Not at all. Most Escape This work groups include first-timers. The briefing explains how the rooms work, game masters send clues on request, and many rooms are rated for players from age 9, so nothing assumes prior experience.

The Workplace Bonding Program

What is the Escape This Workplace Bonding Program?

A programme built with a relationship expert that turns the game into lasting insight. Before playing, each person completes a Workplace Bonding Questionnaire about how they solve problems and communicate; the escape room then tests those styles under pressure, and the team leaves with practical strategies for collaborating back at work.

Christmas parties and EOFY events

Is an escape room a good idea for the office Christmas party?

Yes — it gives the party a shared story early in the night and something for everyone to do, not just the people who enjoy a bar. Escape This can run matched rooms for up to 60 or open a whole venue for up to 100, and every venue is surrounded by places to carry on afterwards.

When should we book an Escape This Christmas party?

As early as possible. Escape This describes the end-of-year season as its busiest for event bookings, and Friday and Saturday dates in December go first. A Monday-to-Thursday date is easier to secure and attracts off-peak savings.

Why hold an EOFY celebration in an escape room?

Because it rewards the team with something they do together. An Escape This room asks for the same things a good financial year did — dividing up work, sharing information and staying calm with the clock running — so it doubles as recognition and as a fun night out.

When do most EOFY team events take place?

Around the end of the Australian financial year on 30 June, so usually late June or July. Weeknights suit EOFY events well, and Escape This's Monday-to-Thursday off-peak pricing makes them cheaper too.

Perth, Sydney, Melbourne and soon Brisbane

How many staff can play at once in Perth?

170: 108 across 14 rooms at Escape This Perth CBD and 62 across 9 rooms at Escape This Northbridge (ER-OS, 25 October 2026). The venues are about five minutes apart on foot, so one company can use both.

Which Perth venue suits our team: Perth CBD or Northbridge?

Escape This Perth CBD on Hay Street Mall is all adventure rooms — pirates, wizards, a bank heist, the Wild West — so it suits mixed groups who want puzzles without scares. Escape This Northbridge on Lake Street is mostly horror, plus Pirate Island. Many Perth companies send each half of the group to a different venue.

Can one Perth group play at both venues at once?

Yes. Escape This Perth CBD and Escape This Northbridge are roughly a five-minute walk apart, so the bookings team can match start times at both and everyone can meet afterwards in Northbridge or the city for dinner.

How does a Perth team get to the Escape This venues?

Escape This Perth CBD is in The Basement under Hay Street Mall, a couple of minutes from Perth Underground station. Escape This Northbridge is at 48 Lake Street, where there is street parking around the block and the Northbridge restaurant strip next door.

Can we take over a whole Perth venue?

Yes. Full venue hire gives your group an entire Escape This venue for up to 100 guests; in Perth that means up to 14 rooms at Perth CBD or 9 at Northbridge. It is charged hourly with a two-hour minimum, and Monday-to-Thursday dates are cheapest.

How many people can play at once in Sydney?

84: 66 across 10 rooms at Escape This Sydney CBD on George Street and 18 across 3 rooms at Escape This Manly (ER-OS, 25 October 2026). Most large Sydney groups use the George Street venue.

Should a Sydney team go to the CBD or to Manly?

Escape This Sydney CBD is the choice for large groups and for anyone who wants horror: nine rooms on George Street near Town Hall and Central. Escape This Manly has three adventure rooms on The Corso and suits one team that wants an offsite feel — the ferry over, the game, then lunch by the beach.

How do Sydney teams get to Escape This?

Escape This Sydney CBD is at 630 George Street, a short walk from Town Hall and Central stations. Escape This Manly is at 2B The Corso, a few minutes' stroll from Manly Wharf, where ferries arrive from Circular Quay.

Which Sydney rooms suit a team that doesn't want horror?

At Escape This Sydney CBD, choose Pirates, Wizard's Chamber or Kraken: Nemo's Revenge; Frankenstein Resurrection is a milder horror at 13+. At Escape This Manly, all three rooms — Entombed, Magic School and The Dunny — are adventures.

Is Escape This Manly good for a small team offsite?

Yes. Escape This Manly's 3 rooms hold up to 18 players at once, which suits a single department or leadership team. Pair it with the Manly ferry from Circular Quay and a meal on The Corso for a half-day away from the office.

Can a Sydney company hire an entire Escape This venue?

Yes. Full venue hire is available in Sydney for up to 100 guests, with furniture, decorations, AV, screens and catering options to make the space your own. It is billed hourly with a two-hour minimum; off-peak weekday dates save the most.

How many people can play at once in Melbourne?

82, across 12 rooms at Escape This Melbourne CBD on Collins Street (ER-OS, 25 October 2026). Most rooms there take up to 8 players, so the bookings team splits bigger groups into matched rooms.

Which rooms can a Melbourne team choose from?

Escape This Melbourne CBD currently runs Jurassic Island, Captain Nemo, Magic University, Meat Grinder, Pirate Island, Pirates, Possession, Van Helsing, Frankenstein Resurrection, Asylum, Zombie Apocalypse, Buried Alive (ER-OS, 25 October 2026). That is a mix of adventures and horror, with several rooms open to players under 18.

Where is Escape This in Melbourne and how do we get there?

Head to 259 Collins Street. Escape This Melbourne CBD sits inside the free tram zone, so colleagues can hop on a tram along Collins Street or walk up from Flinders Street Station in a few minutes; drivers will find paid car parks in the surrounding blocks.

What team sizes do the Melbourne rooms take?

Most Escape This Melbourne rooms take two to eight players; Asylum and Zombie Apocalypse and Buried Alive take up to four. Exact limits for every room are in the table on the Melbourne page.

Can we book Escape This team building in Brisbane?

Not yet, but it’s on the way. Escape This is opening Escape This Brisbane CBD in the first half of 2027, its first Queensland venue. Group sizes, prices and booking open once the venue is in the booking system; until then, Queensland teams can plan an offsite at the Sydney CBD venue.

Which rooms will a Brisbane work group be able to split across?

Escape This has scheduled Pirates, Captain Nemo, The Wizard’s Chamber, Frankenstein Resurrection, Zombie Apocalypse, Asylum and Cannibal for Brisbane in the first half of 2027. Team Escapes will publish how many people the Brisbane CBD venue can take at once when its rooms are bookable.
